Stuart Sorinsky's professional career began in 1969 when he graduated from DePaul University with a degree in accounting. His first job was as the controller of a large box and scrap metal company in Chicago. Then in 1974, he borrowed $5,000 to start a wholesale health and beauty products business, which he built into an $8 million operation. With the advent of huge discount chains like Wal-mart and K-mart, however, many of Stuart's own customers, small independent drug stores, were forced out of business.
When he sold the health and beauty products business in 1988, Stuart decided to transition into public accounting. In 1991, he passed the CPA exam and became certified. He says that he knew first-hand what it took to build a business from the ground up and make it successful. Since he was familiar with all the mistakes entrepreneurs can make along the way, he believed that he would be able to use his experience to help others. As an entrepreneur, the most important thing you can do is plan for the future, according to Stuart. That way, you can reach your business goals. Today, his business consulting and management services benefit many business owners.
Stuart, who also has an MBA degree, continues to draw upon his lifetime of experience in business management, accounting and computers to help startups and small to medium-size businesses. The key to success in his own business was his quick response to customers' needs. As a partner in the firm of Dolins, Dolins & Sorinsky, he employs the same philosophy of prompt, personalized service and professional, high-quality work for each client.
Stuart is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society. He is also a member of the Northbrook Continuing Professional Education group of 40 North Shore CPA firms who meet regularly for seminars. To keep abreast of ever-changing tax laws and policies in the accounting field, he regularly attends conferences and annual industry trade shows.
Stuart and his wife, Jan have two grown children.
